With a rising elderly population and rising prevalence of cancer in Hong Kong, palliative services and end-of-life care are increasing in need. However, among the deficiencies in medical education currently is the lack of training in general palliative care competencies.
This symposium contrasts best educational practices in palliative medicine in Hong Kong, USA, Taiwan, Singapore, and mainland China regarding the education of physicians. Through a series of short lectures and discussion panels with audience engagement, three overarching questions are addressed: 1) What should every doctor know about palliative medicine? 2) How do we utilize commonly encountered clinical scenarios to teach palliative medicine? 3) How do we achieve a cohesive system for palliative education? Each section will include an introduction, panel discussion, and Q&A from the audience.
